Get started with SMART Subscriptions

Install SMART Subscriptions, then follow the Home Setup Guide in order: activate the widget on your theme, create a plan, customize the widget, allow customers to manage under Management, and set up Emails. After that, place a test order and confirm the contract under Subscriptions.
SMART Subscriptions does this with plans, a product-page widget, and a native customer portal.

Setup order
- Install SMART Subscriptions and open Home.
- Activate the widget on your theme: add the Subscriptions Widget theme app block to the product template, then save and publish.
- Create a plan under Plans: add one or more options (frequency, billing style, discount) and pick the products or variants.
- Customize the widget under Widget (texts, colors, spacing, typography, CSS, translations, defaults) with a live preview.
- Allow customers to manage under Management: activate the Subscription management page, and optionally the Thank you page card and Order action button. Each one is added as a block in Shopify's checkout and accounts editor. The portal needs the new Shopify customer accounts.
- Set up emails under Emails. Templates stay inactive until you activate them, and each one can send you a test email.
- Confirm your store uses a payment gateway Shopify supports for subscriptions. See Payment gateways.
- Optional: review payment and inventory failure retries in Settings.
- Place a test subscription order, then confirm the contract under Subscriptions and metrics on Home.

Follow the Home order
Customizing Widget before the theme block is live, or before a plan is assigned, will not show a working offer. Complete activate widget and create plan first. The widget has no separate on/off switch: visibility is published block + plan assignment.
