Subscription plans
Updated · SMART Subscriptions (E-TRADE PARTNER)
Create subscription plans under Plans in SMART Subscriptions. Each plan has one or more options. Each option sets delivery every N days, weeks, months, or years, Pay as you go or Pay in advance, an optional Percentage, Amount off, or fixed price discount (with a second discount after X payments), and optional minimum and maximum payments. Then assign products or variants, and optionally hide payment methods at checkout.
SMART Subscriptions does this with plans, a product-page widget, and a native customer portal.
Try it freeA plan is the selling offer customers pick on the product page. Without a plan assigned to the product or variant, the widget has nothing useful to show.
Plan options
| Setting | Options / notes |
|---|---|
| Subscription options | One or more per plan, reorderable. Each option's Label is the name customers see in the widget |
| Delivery frequency | Every 1–99 days, weeks, months, or years |
| Billing style | Pay as you go, or Pay in advance (Payment every is a multiple of Delivery every, in the same unit) |
| Discount | Percentage, Amount off, or Fixed amount (a fixed subscription price) |
| Discount after X payments | Optional second discount after N payment cycles |
| Minimum payments | Optional. Customers can't cancel in the portal until they reach it. You can still cancel from Subscriptions |
| Maximum payments | Optional. The subscription ends automatically after this many payments. The first order counts as payment 1 |
| Products | Pick products or variants in Plans, or in Shopify admin use Manage subscription plan on the Purchase options card or Add to subscription plan in the product list |
| Hide payment methods | Per option; match method names with is or contains. A cart with that option hides them for the whole checkout |
| Translations | Translate option names for each store language |
| Duplicate | Copy a plan to start a new one |

Assignment is required
If a product still looks one-time only, check that the plan assigns that product or variant and that the theme block is on the published template. See Subscription widget.

›What delivery intervals can I set?
Delivery every 1 to 99 days, weeks, months, or years.
›What discount types are available?
Percentage, Amount off, and Fixed amount, which sets a fixed subscription price. You can also switch to a second discount after X payments.
›Can I hide payment methods for a plan?
Yes. In Plans, enable Hide payment methods on checkout and match names with is or contains. If the cart has that option, the methods are hidden for the whole checkout.
›How do minimum and maximum payments work?
Both are optional on each option. A minimum blocks cancel in the customer portal until that many payments are made. A maximum ends the subscription automatically after that many payments. The first order counts as payment 1.
›Why does a product not show the plan?
Confirm the product or variant is assigned on the plan, and that the Subscriptions Widget is on the published product template.
